Hello Everyone,

My name is Zahava Johnson and I am passionate about Early Childhood Education.  I have been teaching our youngest learners for over fifteen years and believe, that in the most formative years, play is essential to learning.  My aspirations include becoming an advocate for early childhood education and increasing knowledge about the importance of a play-based curriculum in the earliest years.  The photo below is one of me as a young child, when play was crucial to my development.  I enjoyed my preschool very much and vividly remember learning in a warm, nurturing environment;  an environment set up to explore and expand my imagination and curiosity.

What are your thoughts on Universal Pre-K and it's importance?
What are the components of a quality preschool setting?

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

Feel free to read and contribute to my blog.

  2. Hi Zahava,

I think universal pre-k is critically important. Equally important, if not more so than elementary grade levels. After all, the younger the child, the more important and life lasting the experiences are. In fact, I wish it were provided to all children as a part of the public school system.

  4. I honestly think universal pre-k education is very important because it builds the foundation for elementary school education. It also provides educational opportunities for parents who could not afford to sent their children to childcare centers thereby giving everyone an opportunity for early exposure to structured education..

  6. I feel the universal pre-k is important for several reason one's that it involves the families as well as the children. The families play an important role in the children education as well. I feel that you must build a relationship with the child en as well as the families because everyone needs to be on the same pages when it comes to educating the children, In addition children need a center environment so that they can learn and grows. Children learn through play because it is developmentally appropriate for young children.
